Step One of Cleaning Up A Diet
In case anyone has not seen it... this is a repost from 2/3/2011 about how to clean up your nutrition. It is worth reading again & engaging in this lifestyle.
Today I got a great question... it was about nutrition and what kind of diet would work for an individual. I am willing to bet that 8-9 times out of ten we can get good results by simply thinking about what is "normal" for us to eat. If "normal" consists of things that are packaged in cellophane to keep a shelf life of 100 years, then it should probably be shifted to "normal" being something from the perimiter of a grocery store. Around the perimeter of a grocery store we will find meats & vegetables, nuts & seeds, fruits & some starches. These foods are made for us to eat by the earth, they have vitamins & minerals our DNA longs for.
By shifting our line of thinking to make these foods our "normal" category, we will clean up our diet enough to baseline, and then work from there. Now, try to eat them in this ball park: Meats & veggies, nuts & seeds, SOME fruit, LITTLE starches, and NO sugar. Until we can baseline out & see what results we get from a clean diet it is hard to move on from there.
This is paleo-like... Meaning you are eating like our Paleolithic ancestors, as they hunted & picked their food mostly. Being a strict paleo can get pretty serious... not eating gum, no seasonings, no caffeine (no coffee??????). So, that is why I would call this "paleo-like." It is the CrossFit food guide pyramid, try it for a month and see how you feel!
